All about a tooth

On Tuesday Elijah came running into the house in a panic.  "Mum, MUM!  I was eating my apple and look!"

His very first loose tooth!  I composed myself long enough to explain that it was perfectly normal before taking the photo, then chuckled quietly to myself after he had returned to the backyard.  ;)

And then, the very next day:

He is now excitedly anticipating the growth of his very first 'adult' tooth, "Just like yours Mummy!"

Daylight savings

...starts tonight!  Remember to turn your clocks forward an hour.  Just thought I'd let you know. ;)

Since Abi's hospital stay, we have been busy trying to get back on track with everything.  The children have been helping too.  And as an added bonus, it's all been very educational!

This is Bethany's favourite task at the moment

Won't be long before Naomi's cooking dinner all on her own!

Baking muffins

 Abigail helped

He helped stack that before he climbed it

He doesn't like the job, but he gets it done

Matching socks and colours too

It's actually dry! ;)

But work needs to be balanced with play, right?

We went to see the ducks and their babies at the Botanic Gardens

"Quack, quack!"

Went exploring in the jungle (aka, the backyard)...

Played frisbee on the town green

Won some hearts
Climbed trees

Watched clouds

And just because I have it handy, here is a picture of the children after navigating their way through the maze last time we visited Lake Pertobe.

Aren't they a cute bunch?

What I learned today

When preparing dinner, never leave your 2 year old alone in the kitchen while you go fetch something from another room...

...for (in Naomi's words), "Eggs fall down!"

Hospital

As I mentioned in my previous post, Abigail was in hospital from Sunday until Thursday.  Unfortunately, that meant that we missed IRFD.  Oh well, there's always next year!

In the ED

On Saturday afternoon, Abi seemed to be a little lethargic - sleeping much more than usual and as the evening neared she felt slightly warm and was not eating.  Sunday morning, I suspected a rising temperature but I couldn't be sure (I'm in the market for a new thermometer!).  We decided we would still attend church and drop into a chemist afterward to check her temperature.  During church she continued to be very lethargic.

After being transferred to the ward

After church, I went to change her nappy and found that she had a large red inflammation that covered almost one whole side of her bottom.  That meant a trip to the emergency department.

When we got to the hospital we found that Abi did indeed have a temperature - it was just over 39 degrees.  And after seeing the paediatrician, she was diagnosed as having Cellulitis.  The doctor did some blood tests which came back with a very high white cell count.  This caused them concern, so to rule out meningitis they did a lumber puncture.  Praise God, her spinal fluid was clear.

Temperature down - time to play!

After trying 3 times to get the cannula in, she was started on IV antibiotics and admitted.  The infection was quite severe and it took longer than expected for the antibiotics to do their job.  The high temperature also persisted on and off for a few days.  Although, the times when her temperature was normal, she was bright and bubbly.

"I can sit again!"

Abi was released from hospital on Thursday with oral antibiotics and she is to follow up with the paediatrician on the 24th.  The rash has continued to improve in leaps and bounds.

Progressed to full 'grandpa' pyjamas ;) (she really enjoyed that toy...)

And can I just say, the great thing about homeschooling is...

...we can work anywhere!

Sorry the photos are poor quality - I only had my mobile.

She's home

Just dropping in briefly to update.

Abigail has been in the hospital since Sunday night.  She is home now, and doing much, much better.  Praise God!  A big thanks to all who have helped out and prayed.  And a special thank-you to Miss Jahz.

I don't have time right now, but I will update with more detail soon.

Good Morning, Warrnambool

These photos really don't do it justice, but I just had to have photos of the display God provided this morning.  A few minutes after these were taken, that band of cloud had all but disappeared...  God just knows how to put a smile on my face :)

the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Celebrating

Today I have been simply enjoying my children, thankful that the world has stabilised a bit.  I'm still a little 'foggy', but I am much, much better than I have been.  So, here are some pictures of our day.

Matching numbers

 and colours.

A little friend

and a bigger one too.

Photos,

 fun,

and sharing.
Books,

and dress-ups.

Height comparisons (seriously, Abigail is 8 months.  Little Zane is only 2 months!),

taste-testing,

and lots of laughter.

That is but a small glimpse of our day.  I hope yours has been just as wonderful.

It is because of the Lord's mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness.
